Ironworkers Local 33- Rochester, NY
An apprentice is an entry level position where the individual will be given tasks based on their abilities. The apprentice will learn from other union ironworkers to sharpen their skills daily. Apprentices will also attend the training program to further enhance the skills that they bring to the job site and become the best union ironworker that they can be.
Apprenticeship training provides individuals with the skills needed to compete economically and to work safely. Union members of the building and construction trades typically receive higher wages and better benefits than those employed by non-union contractors. Apprentice training is no-cost and you earn wages while you learn!

Applications are available and can be completed online Monday through Sunday during the recruitment period at https://www.ironworkers33.org, or by downloading and using the mobile app IW 33. Applications can be completed in-person at 650 Trabold Road, Rochester, NY 14624, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm, except on legal holidays. All applications must be received by September 5, 2024.
RANKING OF APPLICANTS:
Applicants are ranked numerically on an eligibility list for Apprenticeship entry. Ranking points are given for education, previous employment, past employers, recommendations, and for military service. Classes useful in preparation for a career in the Union Ironworking industry are:
1. Mathematics
2. Drafting and blueprint reading
3. Construction technology
4. Shop classes
5. Welding
RELATED TRAINING:
This is a four year program. 204 hours of related classroom training shall be required each year.
Requirements
The committee requires that applicants:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school or equivalency diploma.
- Transcript required if accepted for the program.
- Have a New York State drivers license -- apprentices will be required to drive company vehicles on public streets.
- Have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction.
- Sign an affidavit stating they are physically able to do the work of an ironworker, which includes working at heights, on or off ladders, with materials or tools.
- Be willing and able to attend our apprenticeship training program Monday and Wednesday nights from 5-8pm
